Schoolgirls of Yi Ethnic Group Share Stories in Poverty Relief at ACWF HeadquartersOctober 21, 2020
Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), met with girl students from Tonghua School in Mabian Yi Autonomous County, a key state poverty alleviation and development county in Leshan City, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, on October 16. Huang extended a sincere welcome to the visiting students and said that the ACWF is home to all girls. She had discussions with the students and listened to what they saw and heard in poverty relief. Huang also asked about their problems and difficulties, and answered their questions, encouraging them to strive for a better life.
Not long ago, a micro film entitled "Chinese Dove Tree Blossoms," co-starring girl students in Tonghua School and based on their real-life schooling experiences, was honored special award among the video entries in a contest to display poverty relief stories launched by the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development.
"I finally realized my dream — to salute the motherland under the national flag on Tian'anmen Square," said Axi Rigu, 15, in the sixth grade. She also had a new dream of attending college in Beijing. Huang noted that the CPC Central Committee, with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, has shown great concern for the growth of children of all ethnic groups. Huang said everyone can achieve personal development through their efforts and she encouraged the students to study hard and develop morality and virtues, and become a new generation of national rejuvenation with a spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence, self-reliance and self-improvement.
Noting that the ACWF serves both women and children, Huang indicated that the ACWF has always paid close attention to poverty-stricken regions such as the areas inhabited mainly by people of the Yi ethnic group, and it will continue to mobilize and integrate resources and give more support, to promote gender equality, ensuring that every woman and child's legitimate rights and interests are safeguarded. Huang also presented the students with a series of books on self-development published by the China Women's Publishing House at the symposium.
